Well, at least if you are Greek (like good ole’ H. Fish is). Today marks the 187th anniversary of Greece’s declared independence from the Ottoman Turks. Although the war for independence started in 1821, it was not until 1829 that Greece was able to free itself from the shackles of nearly 400 years of slavery.

Just a quick tidbit: The 9 stripes on the Greek flag above represent the 9 syllables of the revolutionary rallying cry — El-ev-the-ri-a- e- Tha-na-tos!
